Despite yesterday's adventures, Dariusz Poloński and Łukasz Sitek returned to the competition in the second stage of the 43rd Rally Islas Canarias (2-4 May) and won their first podium in the Abarth Rally Cup series. The beginning of the second round of the European Championship was successful for the Poles. On the first stage they achieved the second result, losing only 1.2 seconds to the cup leaders. They kept the second place to the SS 3, where they unfortunately hit on the stone ending their ride in this part of the rally. Abarth was taken to the service area on a trailer and the Rallytechnology mechanics quickly dealt with the damage of the front suspension.

Polonski and Sitek used their chance in Rally2 and on Saturday morning they were ready for the start of the ninth special stage. On the first of eight trials they placed themselves in the third position and with the same result they entered the service zone. It was obvious that they were more and more confident on the picturesque routes of the island of Gran Canaria, which they confirmed by the pace at the final loop. They improved all their previous times, three times reaching for the third result at Rally RGT 124. In the end, to say goodbye to the Canaries they repeated the feat from the beginning of the rally and finished second. At the finish ceremony in Las Palmas they could celebrate the third place and the first podium in the cup. In the ERC 2 category, they also finished high – on the fourth position.

They will compete for more points on the routes of Rally Liepāja in Latvia in less than three weeks, from 24th to 26th May. For Darek Poloński it will be a gravel debut at the wheel of Abarth.

Robert Gabryszewski (Rallytechnology team manager): "This is the end of the excitement in the Canary Islands Rally, and it was a lot this weekend. We could watch the fierce battle and many twists and turns, not only in the general classification, but also in individual categories.

Of course, we kept our fingers crossed for Darek and Łukasz, and our duo started the rally in a beautiful style. Unfortunately, a good pace stopped one of the boulders, which are so common on the sides of these sections. The Abarth was quickly repaired and we returned to the competition. The crew showed the spirit for the fight and throughout the whole day they were pushing the pace all the time. Thanks to that they finished their debut in the Abarth Rally Cup with a great result, on the third step of the podium.

We take home cups and valuable points from the Canaries, but equally important is new experience and knowledge of the car that we have collected on the route of this beautiful and difficult rally. Thanks to this, we will be even stronger in Latvia."
